Superintendent Message – July 30, 2020

I realize that with Tuesday’s announcement by Governor Brown and my correspondence to you on Wednesday, many of our families have been pushed into panic mode as you deal with employment, childcare, making ends meet and a quality education that all children deserve.  What has happened to our students and families has weighed heavily on my mind since March.  The Pendleton School District is committed to serving our students as we work our way through the COVID-19 crisis.  Within the next three days, you will receive three important messages from us, including:

  1. Monday evening at approximately 5 pm, families throughout the Pendleton School District will receive a letter from your child’s school that will explain what the Comprehensive Distance Learning will look like for students and you, the parents.  You should know that currently there are but a few schools in the entire state that can reopen using the metrics that were released on Tuesday.  It does not help that our county currently has the highest incidence rate in the state of Oregon.  Please do your part to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
  2. A Childcare Survey is being sent to you later this evening.  It is imperative that if you will have unmet childcare needs as a result of the Comprehensive Distance Learning model, that we know the scope of the problem, so we can attempt to remedy the issue.  Please, complete the survey within the next five (5) days.
  3. Information on the Pendleton Virtual Learning Academy will also be sent this evening.  The PVLA as it will be referred to will afford resident students an online experience that is similar to current online programs offered across the state.

We are in this together and I hope you will continue to allow us to serve you and your children.

Respectfully,
Chris Fritsch

Respetuosamente,
Chris Fritsch
