The Pendleton School District has hired Lorena Woods to be the new principal at McKay Creek Elementary School. Woods will be replacing Ronda Smith, who will be the principal at Sherwood Heights Elementary School.
Woods is coming to Pendleton after spending the last two years teaching middle school math in Hermiston. According to Superintendent Chris Fritsch, Woods’ career has spanned more than 27 years and she has distinguished herself not only as an outstanding classroom teacher, but has also served as an athletic director, coach and high school assistant principal.
“Ms. Woods comes to our district with 20 plus years as an outstanding classroom teacher. Over that time, she has stood out and been recognized for her leadership in use of data and high-leverage teaching strategies and done extensive work around state standards, iReady, and PLCs. We are excited to have her join our team and about the skills and experiences she brings to our district,” Fritsch said.
Woods earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Western Oregon University in 1991 and her Master of Education degree from the University of Phoenix in 2015. Her contract begins on July 1, 2018.
